Abstract

The decision taken by the United States to deploy a 'light' anti-ballistic missil (ABM) system over the coming years represents a stage in the history of the East-West strategic confrontation. This is why this decision therefore deserves to be analyzed as closely as possible, since its origins and consequences are obviously of different and very different orders. For this reason, the tactical characteristics of the new weapons systems, the strategic aspects that have determined the decision to deploy on both sides, and their budgetary and political consequences are successively examined.

De la Escuela Práctica de Altos Estudios (Sorbonne), es actualmente profesor investigador del Instituto de Estudios Internacionales de la Universidad de Chile. Durante varios años fue investigador del Centre d'Etudes de Politique Etrangere de París. Entre sus publicaciones está El conflicto chino-soviético en América Latina, Arca, Montevideo, 1967.
