The following essay aims to ponder the problems associated with the confinement in a continuum between the exception state, the limitations associated with free circulation, quarantine and psychiatric institutions. Thought not as events that weigh one over the other, but rather, as a rhizome, based on a constant overlap between one and the other. Inspired on concepts derived from the work of Deleuze and Guattari, escape is proposed as an alter- native to confinement, assuming this one doesn’t necessarily correspond literally to being locked in an institution, and likewise, escape doesn’t necessarily have to do with escaping a determined place. Finally, there is an attempt to situate the machinic question in regard to psychiatric institutions.
